Our Services Lymphatic Drainage
18/10/24
The lymphatic system is our body's waste system. It maintains fluid levels in our body tissues by removing all fluids that leak out of our blood vessels. The lymphatic system is important for the optimal functioning of our general and specific immune responses.
There are times when it may be beneficial to your health to undertake treatment which aims to encourage the lymph system to drain lymph fluid. Lymphatic drainage may be recommended to you:
- If you develop lymphoedema after cancer treatment
- By your surgeon after cosmetic or breast reduction surgery.
- It may also be beneficial if you have swelling of your face, neck, upper arm, thigh, breast, trunk or swollen legs.
We are fortunate at Back to Health to have two experienced practitioners undertaking different forms of this therapy, widening the range of people we can help.
Reflexology Lymph Drainage
RLD is a gentle therapy undertaken on the feet only and is considered to be a ground-breaking form of massage, as it is one which people with lymphoedema, lipoedema and cancer can safely receive and enjoy, without it causing them any discomfort or harm.
Some, people with an active diagnosis of cancer and or those receiving treatment in the form of radiotherapy /chemotherapy / those in remission, may be able to receive RLD. This can be of benefit to them in many ways (eg. offering pain relief, enhancing their immune function and helping to reduce swelling). RLD has fewer contraindications so can be used on people who couldn’t have a massage.
